#TBT: Something Old, Something New by George Qin

I came upon an old sketchbook recently which was somewhat of a goldmine. It always surprises me when I find old stuff (Or rather, past me surprises current me). Sometimes when I read my old journals I'd think "Wow that's pretty deep, past-me". Anyway, I was reminded of how determined I was to reach my goals back then when I just started out and how to really be motivated like that once again. I think I'm going to pick up where I left off on those goals if at all possible.

That being said, I'll start off with a baby step - Some of these old sketches reminded me of how good I used to be at sketching and inspired me to start back up again. I didn't really know what I was doing to start with but I'm confident it'll come back to me over time. I remember that I didn't often draw - but did so when I found inspiration in something I would like to perhaps draw.

You can tell this is the one I did today. No ref image, lazy with shadows, incorrect perspective on various parts, and far less control on the darkness of the pencil. Also, done in less than half the time of any of the others.

So here's my declaration: I'm going to start trying harder again to achieve my goals. I don't think I'd call myself lazy, but I've slowed down a lot in the past year and there's no excuse anymore. Whilst university basically consumed me, it was also a huge driver of the early mornings and the full days of work. I need that desperation back in me to fuel my journey. So I'm writing it out here.

All the best with your endeavours!
